Boveresses
Lausanne, 2016-2021

The project is located in the heart of the Boveresses neighborhood, to the north of Lausanne, an area characterized by several emblematic housing complexes from the 1970s. The aim is to integrate the new building into this context with a strong identity. The resulting urban morphology follows the clear orientation of the surrounding urban fabric, offering an articulated volume with stepped edges. Without seeking mimicry, the building establishes a strong connection with its built environment.

Two reference levels define the project. The lower ground floor, oriented to the south, houses the school and extracurricular programs, as well as the main access to the residential units. The upper ground floor, to the north, opens onto a tree-lined park and a playground, creating a direct connection to the public space. The entrances lead to two generous circulation cores that serve all floors. Beneath the garden slab, a parking area operates on half-levels. A canopy near the amenities provides access to the parking for both residents of the building and those in the neighborhood.

The layout follows an orthogonal grid system of rigid north-south axes spaced 3.6 meters apart, combined with a more flexible system of east-west walls. The intersection of these two systems generates a fluid plan, with rooms arranged in a sequence. This layout offers many cross views within the apartments, through large floor-to-ceiling doors. On the façade, this concept results in multiple setbacks that provide varied orientations for the apartments and ample natural light.

In line with the urbanistic concept, the use of prefabricated concrete for the façades establishes a dialogue with the adjacent buildings, giving the project a timeless presence.
