Lake leman Museum
Nyon, 2015-

Perched on a hill, the old town of Nyon boasts a highly characteristic topography. A series of walls and embankments form the outer limits while defining the plateaux, belvederes and pathways. The project for the extension of the Musée du Léman builds on this to blend into an environment marked by history stretching back over a thousand years. The programme as a whole “slides”

under the ground between the Bourg-de-Rive and Bois-Fleuri parks, creating a park on a promontory that offers a new viewpoint over Lake Geneva and is bordered by a new wall recalling the historic city ramparts. Viewed from the old town, this important public building blends in discreetly, while from the lake, the emblematic symbol is visible from afar, a proud reminder of its epoch. The resolutely contemporary building contrasts perfectly with the heritage of the past.
